この作品は、後のインパルス時代と違って、ジャズとして解りやすい形で　ファンキームードが一杯で楽しさや気楽さが満載のハードバップを聴くことが出来ます。
　リー・モーガンとカーティス・フラーとの３管編成でのびのびと吹いています。バックのリズムセクションも文句なしです。
ＴＲ，１のタイトル曲「ブルー・トレイン」、スタートからはじまる３管編成のお馴染みのテーマメロディーが流れるとワクワクします。そして全サイドメンの緊張感溢れる高レベルな演奏も素晴らしいものがあります。
ＴＲ，２の「モーメンツ・ノーティス」、速くて、軽快な曲です。
ＴＲ，３の「ロコモーション」、“移動”と言う意味で”疾走感“を感じてしまいます。ただエンディングはしみじみとした余韻が残る良い曲です。
ＴＲ，４の「アイム・オールドファッションド」、コルトレーンはこの魅力的なスローバラードを情感豊かに奏でて感動ものです。
ＴＲ，５締めくくりの「レイジー・バード」、小気味いい音でモーガンがテーマを取りそのままソロに入る、やはり恐るべき１９歳と言えます。
