ベルリン・フィル首席であり、名実ともに現代フルート界のトップに君臨するエマニュエル・パユが、新しいソロ・アルバムに選んだ作品は、シューマン夫妻、メンデルスゾーン姉弟による、1840 年から 1860 年の間に書かれた作品をフルートで演奏したもの。その当時フルートは人気にもかかわらず、フルート用に書かれた室内楽はあまりありませんでした。このアルバムには、ロベルト・シューマンの「3つのロマンス Op. 94」は、もともとはオーボエのために書かれたもので、1950年にジャン＝ピエール・ランパルによって編曲され、 その後、フルート奏者にとって重要なレパートリーのひとつになりました。
こうした歌曲や他の楽器のための作品を、パユの甘美で印象的な音色には、ロマティックさとともに弱音から奏でられる淡い独自の絶品な表現力があります。「私はモザイク画を大きくするよりも、緻密さを追求したい」と語っているとおり、パユが描いた音楽そのものがこのアルバムに散りばめられています。
